CARRETONES HOUSE is a single-family project located within a subdivision to the west of Mexico City, in the Huxiquilucan area in the State of Mexico. A suburban area where single-family housing predominates but with recreational areas relatively close by. Taking advantage of the descending topography of the land, a house was designed which is buried in its front part towards the street in order to reach the -2.00 level of the lowest point of the land where the garden was planned to be located.
Designed for a young family with small children, the aim was to have the largest social spaces both indoors and outdoors, locating them along the spatial route of the house. Where on each level of the house you have a social area which connects you with the different programs. The exterior shape reflects some of the interior spaces and others do not, they remain hidden, in a game of privacy.
Seeking to reflect that privacy in the solid facades towards the neighbors and open with greater permeability towards their garden.
Due to its location on a hill with a descending slope, the best possible orientation was sought to allow the sun to enter the house through its recess on its lateral side, the lowest level of the land, towards the west as entrances. overhead light due to its different skylights emphasizing the stairs.
The house is distributed in 4 levels, two below the sidewalk level and two above it. On the lower level are the warehouse, service and laundry areas with an interior patio for lighting and ventilation. At the access level, which was developed on different platforms that allow you to reach the lowest level of the land where the garden is, there are the social spaces of the home, such as a study, kitchen, dining room, living room and games room; where upon entering the house you are greeted by a hall with a triple height where you are distributed to the most social areas or to the private ones through a sculptural staircase. On the upper level there is the main room, 2 bedrooms each with its own dressing room and bathroom, and a family room where there is a staircase to access the rooftop level. On the rooftop level, there is 1 bedroom with a dressing room and bathroom, an office with a bathroom and access to the rooftop where there is a pergola that helps protect you from the sun and rain for a second living room and dining room.
The living area space with a height of 7 meters on the ground floor is the heart of the house which is integrated with the outside garden, and is where most of the family life will take place.
