CELESTUN HOUSE is a single-family project for vacation use located within the Ría Celestun Biosphere Reserve, which is located at the northwestern end of the Yucatan Peninsula. The Biosphere has an area of 81,483.33 ha, included in the municipalities of Celestun and Maxcanú, in the State of Yucatán, and Calkini in the state of Campeche. Bordered to the east by the Gulf of Mexico, to the north by the “El Palmar” State Reserve in Yucatán and to the south by the “Petenes” Biosphere Reserve in Campeche.
The property is located within the municipality of Calkini in Campeche, and is irregularly shaped on rustic land with access via a municipal dirt road. It has an area of 1,800m2 of which 18 meters have a beach front bordering the Gulf of Mexico.
Our proposal for the House is to raise it half a level above the level of the natural terrain using piles to affect the flora and fauna of the region as little as possible. This level is made up of the main access to the House, where upon entering you are greeted by a hallway which takes you to the living area or the service area. This circulation through a portico surrounds an interior patio which is outside and preserves the flora of the site; and at the same time it allows the house to have cross air circulation, as in times of strong winds it serves as a chimney and diverts the direction of the air towards the sky.
In the service area, we have the service kitchen with its bathroom, a cellar and parking spaces. In the living area, we have a bar, dining and living room area. This area has direct access to a terrace which has a clear view of the plaza and the Gulf of Mexico. Here there is an outdoor dining room, a kitchenette, a sunbathing area, a pool with a wading pool, a bathroom with a shower, and a cellar for storing outdoor furniture. In front of the lot, on the dirt road, there is a gate for pedestrian and vehicular access, like a guardhouse.
On the +1 Floor of the project (N+4.95 meters), it is composed of the bedroom area, a television room, a laundry room with access to a service patio, and a communal outdoor terrace which has view towards the main entrance. The bedroom area is made up of 3 bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, and exits to open exterior terraces.
In the Rooftop Plant there are drinking and treated water tanks, and an entire area of solar cells for collecting solar energy.
